John Ireland’s life has been about discovery and development. He has over twenty years of experience in the social service arena both as a staff member and a volunteer and ten years of experience as an entrepreneur developing small businesses primarily in the former Soviet Union. He has worked for YMCAs in a variety of locations and positions including CEO, Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Human Resources, and as a consultant with the YMCA of the USA. John and his wife, Ginny, have two adult daughters: Laura, who is an attorney in Oregon, and Katie, who is a high school teacher in Massachusetts.

John’s specialty is leadership development, which he defines as “harnessing the collective genius of an organization to achieve its purpose.” Under the general umbrella of leadership development, John provides the following specific organizational interventions:

• Staff Development
• Strategic Planning

In each of these interventions, John partners with key staff and volunteers to customize a process that involves discovery, assessment, clarifying priorities, designing appropriate models, and developing an implementation plan.
