Four Point Strategic Planning
When you think Strategic Planning what do you think? Long-range?
Mission statements? Boring? Not the way Triangle2 does it.
Four Point Planning is a strategic planning process developed
by Tom Massey specifically for YMCAs and other nonprofit organizations.
The process helps determine:
- Purpose
- Principles
- Priorities
- Performance
Over 60 YMCAs and other nonprofits have used it to set three-
year strategic plans.
Four Point planning is built on the following concepts:
- It is not about everything
just the most important
things.
- Input by many
decisions by a few people most invested
in the organization.
- The best strategies connect the Mission, market, and management.
- There must be a balance of stretch and sustainability.
- Senior staff and board members work together on the process.
Components of Four Point Planning include:
- Orientations for the board, staff, and planning team.
- Program & facility tours.
- Priority focus groups.
- Assimilation of data points for decision-making.
- Feasibility testing.
- Performance plans.
- Board monitoring and oversight.
- Growth Strategies for 3-10 years.
The process is highly interactive and can be completed with
a few meetings in a relatively short period of time, without
compromising on depth and thoroughness.
